Marco Pierre White has unveiled the latest reincarnation of a menu that pays homage to the traditional Chophouse restaurant.
A tribute to the eateries that first emerged in London in the 1690s, the well-known restaurateur revived this traditional dining experience by launching Mr White's English Chophouse in March 2018.
Focused on serving succulent joints of meat in glamorous surroundings, British heritage is firmly at its core, while unsurprisingly the menu centres around steaks, grills and chops, and cleverly combines English classics while introducing a little French flair that is the very epitome of the famed chef's cooking style.
He has now given the menu a complete overhaul, which features an exciting range of dishes that reflect his passion for serving delicious food that is simply cooked and served in relaxed surroundings.
Marco said: "I like to keep things simple and generous and that forms the basis for this new menu. Chophouses go back centuries, so it's not about inventing something that is new, more refining something that is good."
Among the various eye-catching starters are Eggs Benedict, Quality Smoked Salmon and a Michel Bourdin Kipper Pate which pays tribute to the legendary French chef who was in charge of The Connaught in London for 26 years.
Steak remains at the heart of the new menu, which uses 28-day aged grass-fed beef with cuts including filet mignon, sirloin, ribeye and a new butcher's flat iron steak. Adding to the steak's appeal, the range of 'toppings' have also been tweaked and will place customers in a bit of a predicament over which to choose!
The Breakfast Grill Garnish includes cured bacon, portobello mushrooms and a free-range egg (there is also a halal version with turkey rashers) while the grilled woodland mushrooms are served with garlic butter. Those wanting something more classic can choose between peppercorn sauce and grilled prawns which also come in garlic butter.
New editions to the mains include a Rump of Lamb Dijonnaise with petit pois a la français, dauphinoise potato and rosemary roasting juices and a Chicken Foresteire with buttered leaf spinach, dauphinoise potato, grilled woodland mushrooms and Madeira jus. Those who prefer fish can go for the Grilled Fillet of Salmon that is served with vine tomatoes, chips and a tomato bearnaise sauce.
There is also a trio of new burgers to choose from including The Banjo, The MPW and The Pig while a halal burger called The Hen has also been added.
And for those wanting vegetarian or vegan, a daily list of specials will be available and made freshly to order.
Finally, those with any room left can then choose from a completely new dessert menu which includes traditional apple crumble, Mr Coulson's sticky toffee pudding, bitter chocolate mousse, a Hell's Kitchen blueberry cheesecake and a selection of farmhouse cheeses.
Tobias Muny, general manager from Mr White's English Chophouse at the New Road Hotel in Whitechapel added: "It's always great to see Marco evolving the Chophouse menu. People just don't realise how involved he really is in the development of the dishes and he's always coming up with fresh, new ideas.
"To see these now on the new menu means regulars and anyone who hasn't been here before can enjoy a meal that's been devised by arguably one of the UK's, if not the world's, best known and most respected chefs."
