• Generous Portions Help Lead To Happiness

Making yourself happy couldn't be any simpler than enjoying a hearty meal with family and friends.

That's the view of superstar chef Marco Pierre White who believes that, during International Day of Happiness, people need to take more time to sit down to eat a nutritious, well-cooked meal.

Believing it to be one of the greatest pleasures in life, the famed chef and restauranteur fears that in today's fast-paced social media world, not enough of us are taking enough time to eat a tasty, generous meal.

And despite his fearsome reputation that made him arguably the first, world-renowned, superstar chef, the one dubbed the original 'enfant terrible' holds very highly the importance of enjoying a meal with friends and family.

Believing that food is, without doubt, a great starting place to make anyone happy, tucking into a freshly prepared steak, piping hot French onion soup or Shepherd's pie and enjoying all the delicious flavours have to be, according to White, one of the most enjoyable things we can do.

In addition, being generous with portions he says, will always bring a smile to people's faces and is one of the main philosophies he instils across his restaurant estate.

"I'm in the business of feeding people and feeding them well," he says.

"I don't like 20-course little portions of fancy a la carte nonsense which are cold by the time they reach the table. Give me a well-cooked steak any day.

"That's what will make people smile."

With more and more people just grabbing a bite to eat whilst on the move without stopping to sit down, fewer people take even half an hour to eat a proper meal and is why he wants more to stop and take stock.

"Preparing or going out for a nice meal enables people to slow down and escape from the stresses and strains of the day," he added.

"And as long as the service is attentive and not overbearing, the atmosphere is fun and relaxing and the food is good, then we've achieved what we set out to do and that's giving people a great lunchtime or evening out."
